In january-february 2010, the volume of retail trade in Moldova amounted to 3 billion 26,6 million leis, increasing in real terms by 1,7% compared with the same period of the last year. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the increase was due to the growing sales of food products by 2% and non-food goods by 1,1%. Increase in volume of retail sales was registered at enterprises of joint (with foreign capital participation) and companies of foreign ownership by 5,7% as well as private ownership companies- by 0,6%. At the same time, the companies of mixed (public + private) and public ownership companies have reduced volume of sales- by 16,7% and 4%, respectively. Existing inventories of trade enterprises as of March 1, 2010 amounted to 5 billion 436.8 million leis, decreasing by 2,9% compared to the same period of 2009. The largest share in the total sales volume accounted for Chisinau municipality - 60,2% and municipality of Balti - 7,5%, followed by: Gagauzia - 2,7%, Cahul - 2%, Orhei-1,9%, Edineţ - 1,7%, Ungheni and Soroca - 1,6% each and Drochia-1,5%. According to NBM, in February 2010 retail sales of enterprises amounted to 1 billion 519.6 million leis, increasing in real terms by 0,1% compared to the previous month and by 0,3% compared with February 2009.
