2010-03-25 - Moldovan parliament creates commission to amend presidential election mechanism
The parliament today decided to set up a special parliamentary commission in charge of amending Article 78 of the constitution concerning the president's election.
The commission will have 11 members, of whom four ones will be delegated by the Party of Communists (PCRM), two by the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), two by the Liberal Party (PL), one representative from the Democratic Party (PD), one from Our Moldova Alliance (AMN) and the draft's author, leader of the United Moldova Party Vladimir Turcan.
Under the MPs' decision, the chief of the commission for rules and immunities, Ion Plesca, was appointed as head of the special commission. The post of commission's deputy head was delegated to the PCRM members although they were absent.
The parliament's decision sees that the commission will present a draft law on the amendment of Article 78 in a month.
Turcan said that the draft law, which will be elaborated by the commission, is likely to be passed by the parliament next October. Afterwards, the parliament will make a request to the Constitutional Court to confirm the existence of juridical circumstances necessary for the parliament' dissolution, and the date of snap elections will be set.
