2010-04-12 - Moldova's exports up by 16.2 per cent in January-February

Moldova's exports amounted to 195.1 million dollars in January-March 2010, which makes 16.2 per cent more against the same period of the year before, according to data by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS).

The head of the BNS department for foreign trade and services statistics, Mariana Eni, has said that exports to the EU went up by 9.6 per cent against January-March 2009, reaching 104.3 million dollars, and accounting for 53.5 per cent of the overall exports. At the same time, exports to the CIS hiked by 28.5 per cent and increased their share from 32.4 per cent to 35.9 per cent.

Eni said that Moldova's top 25 trade partners in terms of exports were: Russia, Romania, Italy, Ukraine, UK, Greece, Germany, Belarus, Turkey, Poland, France, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, the USA, Bulgaria, etc. As much as 96.8 per cent of all Moldova's exports went to these countries.

Moldova mainly exported foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco, machines and equipment for transport means.

Eni said that on this period, Moldova imported goods worth 450.7 million dollars, with the figure increasing by 1.9 per cent against January-February 2009.

Thus, the deficit of the trade balance was 255.6 million dollars, down by 12.3 per cent compared with the first two months of the year before.

The above-mentioned data do not cover the trade operations carried out by Transnistria-based enterprises, Mariana Eni added.
