The experience of Sweden in fighting trafficking in human beings will constitute the main theme of a training program organized in Chisinau on November 9, 2006.
In the framework of this seminar, representatives of local and central public authorities international and non-governmental organizations from the Republic of Moldova will be familiarized with Swedish information methods and practices to combat trafficking in persons.
Well-known political scientists and experts of the Swedish Government and civil society in matters of trafficking in human beings for sexual purposes will share with Moldovan participants subjects related to Swedish legislation in this field. It should be mentioned that the Swedish legislation from 1998 criminalizes the buying of sexual services, as well as any activities of human trafficking registered in Sweden.
This seminar should contribute to generating new ideas on preventing the trafficking in human beings, on strengthening the cooperation between the non-governmental organizations and local and central public authorities. Other objectives deriving from this training programme are related to legal aspects, temporary custody and support provided to persons identified as victims of human trafficking.
This training programme, developed with the support of the Swedish Institute, is organized in Chisinau by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mission to Republic of Moldova, in partnership with the Swedish Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (SIDH) and the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in the Republic of Moldova.
